The smallest 'mickey mouse' business now has a website. Politicians who represent thousands of people can't see the value in having one. Question...Should these luddites be elected at all?
Lest there be any argument as to the veracity of my findings, I took the liberty of screen capturing each page on 22 Jan 2007 from the Fiannafail.ie website.
Also, bear in mind that all ministers have their Dept. websites. If they weren't ministers, would all these TD's have personal websites? I doubt it!
In fairness, all the other parties seem to have the same disdain for their constituents.
IT'S TIME TO STOP CREAMING AND START WORKING!
POLITICIANS WHO CAN'T BE BOTHERED WITH EMAIL ADDRESSES OR WEBSITES
I needed to contact my local TD/MP Sean O'Fearghaill (Johnny Farrell) on 22 Jan 2007 who is a Fianna Fail member.
I went to www.fiannafail.ie in an effort to find his email address and discovered that he doesn't have one.
So I decided to dig a little deeper to find out how many more didn't have email addresses and found eight sitting Fianna Fail TD's fitted the bill.
And then I got to thinking...bearing in mind that it's the seventh year of the 21st century...how many had personal websites?
There were 79 Fianna Fail sitting TD's in all and 38 didn't have a website...almost half. Now, if I was a public representative with an interest in looking after the community that elected me, the first thing I would do is set myself up with a website and email facilities.
Imagine how you could promote yourself and your ideas. You could encourage everyone in the community to regularly check your website to see what progress your area was making with regard to education, roads, planning, and almost anything else that affects you. Schools and colleges would be a good place to start. That's great but...
Many of our sitting TD's/MP's from all parties have nice little businesses going along with their hefty government salarys. Such as farmers, publicans, lawyers, doctors etc. The last thing that these 'politicians' want is scum from council housing estates, such as me, clogging up their 'nice little earner' with annoying little emails.
One wonders if the slow roll-out of broadband and other internet connections could have anything to do with curtailing such activity.
People like me are about to become a big pain in the arse for politicians in the future. But, we will only be asking them to do what they were elected to do in first place.
