Recently I had cause to contact councillors in Kildare County Council and was very surprised to find that of the 25 councillors only 11 had email addresses on
Councillors.ie. I emailed the 11 with my complaints and was even more surprised when I got only one reply and 6 mail delivery failures.
So I decided to do a little survey to see if this trend was the case with other county and town councils and below are the results.
If there are any inaccuracies it will not take from the fact that in the electronic age of 2006 local government has a long way to go.
Over all there are 880 councillors in the country.
I emailed all of the 581 who had posted email addresses on Councillors.ie.
I recieved 112 mail delivery failures.
And got 65 replies.
404 didn't reply.
