Special Budget Announcement.
Prominent Fianna Fail crooks unearthed by the Flood Tribunal in 2002 were: builders Tom Brennan and Joseph McGowan, auctioneer John Finnegan, the late Joseph Murphy (snr) of JMSE, Joseph Murphy (jnr), builder Michael Bailey, his brother Tom Bailey and Mrs Caroline Bailey, impressario Oliver Barry and businessman James Stafford.
Not one of them, or their successors , the white collar John Gilligans such as the Bailey brothers, spent one day in prison or have had their huge fortunes (the proceeds of corruption) significantly diminished. The government which spawned and nurtured them, is cock of the hoop, top of the pops, high in the polls and flush with the taxes paid by middle class Ireland, whom they are about to buy (in the coming election)- with their own money.

Bishops warn of fall into 'moral chaos'
(These guys and their patrons, the government, are in a strong position to moralise to the rest of us.)
THE Catholic bishops have lashed out at the growing levels of teen sex, drink and violence.
Such behaviour is contributing to Irish societys "downward descent into moral chaos", according to the Irish Conference of Bishops.
In an appeal for a return to traditional values, the bishops also hit out at politicians and opinion-makers for not taking a moral stand against growing sexual permissiveness and disrespect for human life.

Court ruling means 150 new homes must lie idle
(The exercise here is to keep the disadvantaged OUT!
And our government will underhandedly support the developers.)
ALMOST 150 new homes in south Dublin will be lying idle until at least next year after a developer lost a legal bid to compel a council to issue it with letters of compliance necessary to complete the sales.
Glenkerrin Homes had sought a High Court injunction to compel Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to issue the letters, but the council refused because it had not reached agreement with the developer over the number of social and affordable units to be provided on site.

Six convicted after village riot
(The drink seems to be doing what firewater did to the Indians when it comes to the galoot element in Irish society.)
A RIOT in which a sledge-hammer, a beer-keg, a hand-saw and an axe handle were used left several people injured and all the front windows in a pub smashed.
Six men were yesterday convicted on charges of causing the riot in Rockcorry, Co Monaghan.
The incident happened on the night of the All-Ireland Gaelic Football final on September 26, 2004.
The owner of the damaged pub, Patrick Fitzpatrick (51), a father-of-five from Corryhagan, Rockcorry, was fined 3,000.

Four to face trial over killing of club bouncer
Yesterday, Mr O'Kelly said the book of evidence was made up of 50 statements rather than the hundreds he was led to believe it would contain and "most of them appeared to be from the gardai and the tainted testimony of the man convicted".
A massive garda presence secured the court building at Merchant's Quay for the brief sitting.
Up to 75 gardai, detectives and members of the Emergency Response Unit surrounded the building.
Officers wearing bullet-proof vests and armed with Uzi sub-machine guns formed a ring of steel outside the court perimeter.

1,000 call centre jobs now hang in balance
(If it wasn't for the Construction Industry ther wouldn't be much going on in this country. It might be a good time to learn a new language.)
A QUESTION mark last night hung over the future of up to 1,000 call centre jobs at Xerox in Dublin.
Industry sources have confirmed to the Irish Independent that document processing giant Xerox (Europe) has conducted a number of reviews of the Irish business over the past number of months.
These reviews have been looking at the possibility of outsourcing the call centre located at at Ballycoolin Industrial Estate in Blanchardstown and financial services jobs to cheaper economies such as India or Central Europe.

Concerns over St Pat's delays sentencing in killing case
(This thug was a 'one man terror operation' and now our great legal system has to deliberate as to whether to lock him up or not. Should the priority not be to protect law abiding citizens first and worry about the thug afterwards when he's off the streets?
THE JUDGE HAS TO DETERMINE WHETHER ST PATRICKS IS LUXURIOUS ENOUGH!)
THE sentencing of a teenage alcoholic convicted of manslaughter after he killed a man in a drink-fuelled row has been adjourned by a judge amid concerns about St Patrick's Institution.
Kevin Walsh, of Allenton Green, Tallaght, Dublin, who was 16 at the time of the crime, had pleaded not guilty to murdering James Burke in September, 2005 at the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre in Clondalkin.

Private nursing home patients 'unfairly treated'
MORE than 4,800 people in private nursing homes in receipt of enhanced subvention are being unfairly treated under current legislation, writes Eilish O'Regan. Cork Fine Gael councillor Colm Burke claimed yesterday that these residents should only have to pay a maximum of 120 of their pension every week.

The rich will get richer under plan to cut top-rate tax band
(SO!...What else is new?)
THE rich will benefit far more than middle-income workers from a 1pc cut in the top rate of tax.
In this week's Budget, child benefit is expected to rise by at least 7, to 157 a month for the first two children.
Social Welfare Minister Seamus Brennan is also pressing to have both the contributory and non-contributory state pension top 200.
Finance Minister Brian Cowen is expected to lower the top tax rate. Details of a cut were leaked yesterday.

Dublin: A 90-minute hell...Vienna: a two-minute wait
(Getting around Ireland...especially towns and cities...is a nightmare most of the time.)
HOW much do I despise this city's traffic? Let me count the ways. I was one of the thousands of southsiders caught in the gridlock of 10 days ago when our seven-minute journey turned into a 90-minute fiasco. The reason we only spent an hour and a half in a dark, cold, unmoving line of traffic was because we were lucky enough to be able to abandon the car. Yes, in this city you consider yourself lucky if you can dump your car on the side of the road and, with your nine-year-old daughter (who is wearing football shorts and a blazer), walk half a mile home in sleeting November rain.

Why Fianna Fail TD feared to speak of 'Bertiegate'
(Not even a modicum of courage in our politicians.)
AN OUTGOING Fianna Fail backbencher has admitted that he ducked the Bertiegate issue because it wasn't politic to do otherwise and he didn't want to be regarded as "a crank" in the party.
Former rugby international Jim Glennon, who is quitting politics, said that backbenchers should have discussed the Taoiseach's loans from friends at their parliamentary party meetings during the height of the controversy.
"I felt we should have discussed it but I have no qualms about saying that I wasn't going to be the one who brought it up," he said.

Dail fury over Health queries secrecy
A SPECIAL agency created by Health Minister Mary Harney to answer more than 4,000 Dail questions about health has led to an all-party revolt over its failure to deal with TDs' inquiries.
Under the old system, answers to questions were on the public record. But queries are now answered in private to TDs. According to Liz McManus of the Labour Party, the new system is "so secretive there is a real danger we may experience a new BTSB or Neary scandal".

The Limerick six-year-old showed the nation the full extent of what host Pat Kenny called her "remarkable recovery" by chatting happily about her glow-light bear and white "fur real" cat.

Ahern says US told not to land rendition flights here
(What a load of crap...How about taking a look?)
THE Government has bluntly told the United States that any flights used for "extraordinary rendition" are not to land at our airports, Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern said last night.
Speaking after two hours of frequently critical exchanges with MEPs investigating CIA rendition flights, Mr Ahern also said that the Government knew of at least one "possible kidnap" flight refuelling at Shannon.

Exchequer awash with cash as tax revenues soar by 16pc
(Wealthy people...get ready for another shovelful of cash
Decklanders...They're too busy shopping to notice
Poor people...get ready to be fooled into voting for the same regime again and don't spill the crumbs!)
FINANCE Minister Brian Cowen will have enough money to cut taxes, boost social welfare, reduce stamp duty and still have cash left over, as tax revenues from the booming economy pour into the Exchequer.
The only problem for Mr Cowen on Budget day next Wednesday will be deciding what to do, and how much to give away without super-heating the economy.

Patients left to die without dignity, says Ombudsman
The ombudsman said she had heard stories from medical personnel "of people dying in noisy wards, of people dying with people on bed-pans in the beds beside them, of relatives with no place to go at dead of night for a cup of tea and countless other instances of deaths without dignity."
She called for a radical overhaul of facilities and policies in acute hospitals, including the provision of facilities for dying patients and the breaking of bad news to patients and their relatives.

Firm ordered to rebuild convent it bulldozed illegally
(No matter what the outcome of this scenario, everyone involved will make a ton of money.
Our government will make it look like they are clamping down on crooked developers and make arrangements to meet in the Galway Tent.)
A COMPANY which illegally demolished a 19th century convent that had been earmarked for preservation has been ordered to rebuild it.
Dublin City Council has ordered developers Kimpton Vale to reinstate the Presentation Convent in Terenure after it was razed on November 5, just two weeks after the council began the process of adding it to the Record of Protected Structures (RPS).

THE ARROGANCE AND INEPTITUDE OF OUR PATHETIC LEADERSHIP
The culture of 'thumb in the pie' politics which has ravaged this country for decades means that we, the electorate, have virtually nothing to replace these morons with...I'm afraid that the destruction of our society is destined to continue.
Bertie's humanity has been hollowed out by his ambition
The difficulty in finding a journalist who doesn't view the Taoiseach with active distaste is to be expected, but what is rather more curious is that within his own party he is strangely devoid of friends. Albert and Charlie had their own personal "spear carriers" who claimed they would die for the leader. However, if he is ever in serious trouble Bertie would struggle to find a minister, let alone a backbench TD, who would raise a finger to save him.
In one sense, this is not entirely surprising. An astute knowledge of human nature is the basic tool of the political trade and the habitues of Leinster House know that when it comes to Bertie, the man that the public sees is not actually what they are getting.

Cost of tribunals reveal more than all their findings
Last month in the Dail, the Taoiseach revealed that the cost to date of all inquiries (completed and current) was 264m, of which 189m was payment for legal fees. In other words, lawyers have got 3 out of every 4 so far spent on these investigations. And since that figure largely reflects the State's known current costs, the total bill for all third party costs (legal fees and witnesses' expenses) will be a far larger sum.
Except nobody knows how much more.

Voters won't make register by election
Fine Gael TD Fergus O'Dowd said: "The current situation is a disgraceful debacle. The minister's arrogance has caught up with him and we are seeing the chaos now with people trying to get back on as a result. It is time to take this issue out of the hands of the already overstretched local authorities and establish a central electoral commission to ensure a greater level of accuracy. The current situation is embarrassing."

Overcharged patient gives 125,000 to care system
(First, the state robs them and then, when found out, they encourage them to give it back.)
AN elderly patient overcharged by the State for a stay in long-term care has donated an astonishing 125,000 back to the care system, even though the Health Service Executive (HSE) did not say how the money will be used.
The HSE is set to hand back over 30m to patients who were overcharged by the end of the year. But it is also asking them to donate a portion of their settlements to its special donations fund.

ANOTHER FINE MESS...ELECTORAL SHAMBLES
The roving register...Councillor loses his vote
(I, myself, was one of the many who were deleted from the registry even though I have lived at the same address for 25 years.)
The extent of the deletions and additions was not the only astonishing aspect. People who had lived in the same place, and featured on the same register, for decades, disappeared from the list. The Labour deputy for Kildare North vanished; his Kildare South colleague appeared at the wrong address.
It did not take long for suspicions to grow. How could Leixlip in Kildare North have an accurate register while that of Celbridge, a very similar town, had one full of errors?
